Jean Baudrillard is a French sociologist and philosopher behind the 1981 book “Simulacra and Simulation”.
The concept of simulation refers to the process of creating representations or models of reality that may bear little or no resemblance to the original. Simulacra, on the other hand, are the resultant copies or imitations that appear to be more real or significant than the reality they seek to represent. They are hyperreal constructs that have replaced the reality they were meant to depict.
