琥珀の石を思わせる透明感のある黄褐色。柔らかく温かみのある質感や色合いをもつ。
琥珀とは太古の樹脂類が土中で石化した鉱物だが、日本の色の名前としては明治以降の文学作品から見られるようになった、比較的若い色。
