One of the most beautiful and hard-to-reach abandoned lighthouses in the world is located in the southern part of the Sakhalin Island.

The lighthouse on Cape Aniva was built in the 1930s by Japanese engineers. One of its main features is that it had a small nuclear reactor inside, which was able to provide autonomous energy for more than 30 years.

The last lighthouse keeper left it in 2010, and it was abandoned completely. The lighthouse almost has not been maintained since its construction, and due to strong sea winds and frequent storms, the structure was severely damaged.
