In the absence of the usual social hierarchies and divisions that exist on Earth, the astronauts had learned to accept each other for who they were, without judgment or prejudice. They recognized that they were all part of the same team, working towards a common goal, and that their differences only made them stronger. It was a freedom of acceptance that allowed for true equality and cooperation.
