Tea wrapper hand-made from fibres of the Paper Mulberry tree (Latin: Broussonetia Papyrifera) by Essence of Tea.
I took this photo of the tea wrapper after drinking the last 7 grams of this 2012 production from the Bulang area in the southwestern province of Yunnan in China, an area known for producing powerful, bitter and long-lived teas.
In an attempt to turn the original packaging into a small piece of art, I soaked the wrapper in Swedish raw linseed oil to enhance saturation of colour and, in addition, preserve the flower motif - presumably done with blue ink, reminiscent of the traditional blue glazing of Chinese teaware - and dried it slowly afterwards. Adding a layer or two of varnish is a project for the future.
