Each morning, I make my way up Kennedy Hill in the pre-dawn stillness. My footsteps crunch softly on the narrow trail as I climb.

Today, like every day since coming to the ranch, I settle into my spot overlooking the Centennial Valley. I sit cross-legged on the earth and arrange myself facing east. Before me, the landscape unfolds like a living painting – the Red Rock River below shrouded in morning fog, the cabins mere specks in the vastness, and the snow-capped mountain standing sentinel over it all.

I close my eyes and take my first deep breath. The mountain air fills my lungs, crisp and pure, reminding me that even in this body that's betraying me, I can still feel vitally alive. With each exhale, I release a small portion of the fear that's been my constant companion since hearing those devastating words: terminal cancer.
