This traditional dance of the Nupe people dates back to centuries ago; a rite borne out of their penchant to dance when they achieved victories in wars.

In Africa dancing is a way of communicating and expressing ideas and emotions, as well as a way of exercising and enjoying life.

Dancing is an important part in the Nupe culture. From celebrating a victory in the battlefield to celebrating a wedding function, dance has a special place in the Nupe culture.

This is an artistic image created with a camera at Patigi, North-Central Nigeria, Patigi in Kwara state Dominated Nupe tribe.
The Nupe people are known to be, noble, peace-loving, transparent and accommodating people.
Nupe people trace their origin to Tsoede who fled the court of Idah and established a loose confederation of towns along the Niger in the 15th century.
