Description

This photo shows a view of St Andrews Cathedral. It was the Scotland’s largest and most magnificent medieval church. Even in its ruinous state, the cathedral remains a prominent landmark highly visible from the sea.
Works began in 1158 and was completed only in 1318. In 1559 a protestant mob ransacked the cathedral and the interior of the building was destroyed. The cathedral fell into decline and become a source of building materials for the town. Nothing until the 19th century was done to preserve the ruins.
This spectacular view of the cathedral is another example of how the negligence and the neglectfulness of men can transform a building into a magnificent, atmospheric and iconic place. A reminder for humans that beauty is in all things but not everyone can see it. Like photography, sometimes, we just need to look at things from a different perspective!
