the present moment,
but it slips away
Like sand in an hourglass
It refuses to stay

Dissociation is a technique the mind uses to protect itself from the full impact of a trauma. There may be a feeling of disconnection from thoughts, feelings, memories, and sense of identity.
It can manifest in one of the several types of dissociative disorders.
