Where heritage, tradition and artistic innovation meet.

The artist's use of scribble art combined with 3D forms conveys a layered narrative that honors the royalty and symbolism of Yoruba culture.

By weaving together traditional motifs with contemporary techniques, the exhibition captures the vibrant fusion of past and present, celebrating the resilience and vitality of African heritage.

“Yoruba culture has spread far and wide into many countries such as Brazil. My personal connection influences my artistic narrative, I want more people to learn our story.”

Curators Statement

“Fez captures the essence of Yoruba royalty, invoking the ancestral symbols and heritage that have shaped African history. Each figure tells a story, embodying power and cultural pride.”

JuuJuuMama (Curator and Founder)

"Itan" translates to "story" or "history" in Yoruba. Yoruba people are one of the largest and most culturally significant ethnic groups in West Africa. Yoruba culture is known for its vibrant and expressive arts, including sculpture, textiles, music, dance, and storytelling. Yoruba art has a strong emphasis on symbolism and spirituality and has influenced the broader African art world. Itan Foundation World isn’t just about displaying art, but also about telling the stories and histories of West African artists, their cultures and their creative journeys. Each artwork is selected for its ability to evoke a sense of storytelling and exploration.
