This exhibition features a series of photographs that explore the nuances of femininity from Eve's perspective, aiming to strip away the conventional myths and highlight her individuality.
“I reimagined the creation story from the distinct vantage point of Eve.”
“Femme originates from personal encounters with remarkable women in my life. Observing the muse ignited a profound curiosity.”
“Femme.mov’ posed the greatest challenge, particularly in sound design and pre-drone operations. Its the sole piece that demanded additional efforts during post-production.”
“In framing Eve's tale, I opted to place her in the serene beauty of a natural setting, similar to the Garden of Eden. Here, Eve's bond with nature and role as the first woman are portrayed.”
“The garden has symbolic significance; representing purity, innocence and the genesis of humanity.”
“Femme encourages a fresh look at historical figures, presenting them not just as parts of a larger story, but as central figures with their own distinct narratives and emotions.”
"Itan" translates to "story" or "history" in Yoruba. Yoruba people are one of the largest and most culturally significant ethnic groups in West Africa. Yoruba culture is known for its vibrant and expressive arts, including sculpture, textiles, music, dance, and storytelling. Yoruba art has a strong emphasis on symbolism and spirituality and has influenced the broader African art world. Itan Foundation World isn’t just about displaying art, but also about telling the stories and histories of West African artists, their cultures and their creative journeys. Each artwork is selected for its ability to evoke a sense of storytelling and exploration.
