Whenever people ask me, “What inspires you to paint?" my answer is always Palakkad, a fascinating place in the God's own country Kerala, India. Rich with lush greenery, thriving wildlife and pulsing with the bounty of Nature, the culture of Palakkad is a blend of majesticity, tradition and art in myriad forms.
It is this culture that I strive to bring alive through my pallette.
This art work brings alive Poothan, the commander of Goddess Kali, dressed in the traditional costume of the ritualistic dance of Poothan and Thira. It is set to the quintessential background of Palakkad with its towering palm trees, against the darkness of the Karivela festival performed during Kummaatti, with the moon as the witness to the unfurling of Poothan's powerful persona, just as it has been a witness in most of my paintings.
