Starting in the late 90’s, I created many detailed digital illustrations by hand...
...With a mouse.
This 19 year old piece is a great example of my mouse painting period - a time before I learned the joys of a wacom pen. Painstaking pixel details were methodically added to these mouse paintings and “Sentinel” is an excellent representation of my detailed approach to art at that time.
Sentinel represented a somewhat more ominous vision for me. The original description is here:
"Between two gigantic waterfalls, a lone structure pierces the sky. Bearing down upon the landscape the tower is almost overpowered - in spite of its enormity - by the vast spectacle of the landscape which supports it."
Looking back, it feels very retro to spend 40-60 hours adding pixel-level details to these pieces, this was a joy to create.
2400x1584 pixels.
