Photochrom print circa 1890-1900 of the Tegetthoff Monument in Pola, Istria, Austro-Hungary.
The monument depicts Wilhelm von Tegetthoff, Admiral of the Austrian Navy. Tegetthoff died in 1871. The city of Pola passed to Italian sovereignty in 1919 and is now part of modern-day Croatia. In 1935, the Tegetthoff monument was removed and relocated to Graz, Austria.
The world continues to move forward and the past grows ever increasingly dim. Despite this, nothing is ever created nor destroyed; it only changes form.
As the viewer looks at this artwork, they will see how Tegetthoff stands tall and the world of the 19th century continues to live on.
