Lorenzo the Magnificent, known for patronage of artists, scholars & poets of the Renaissance, sponsoring artists such as Botticelli, Michelangelo & da Vinci, expanding the Medici library & workshop to copy & disseminate books across Europe, support of Medici Academy of philosophers & connecting artists for commission. An artist also, he wrote poetry, celebrating life & noting the fragility of the human condition. From early age he was seen as most promising of Piero & Lucrezia’s 5 children, tutored by Marsilio Ficino & sent on diplomatic missions as a youth, including to see the Pope & important political figures. Upon Piero’s death, he assumed a leading role at 20 in the Florentine Republic & Golden Age there.
