In August of 2007, Laney Griner took her 11-month old son Sam to Ponte Vedra Beach south of their home in Jacksonville, Florida, with the intention to take some fun summer photos. Sam was more interested in exploring and playing in the sand. After a few unsuccessful tries to snap Sam smiling, Laney took one last shot which became the photo known as "Success Kid".
