Description

In crafting this painting, I embarked on a narrative journey, weaving a tapestry of diverse influences that traverse both geographical and cultural landscapes. The genesis of this artistic endeavour traces back to my revisitation of the anime epic, Naruto, sparking within me a creative impulse to capture the essence of a female samurai or ninja amidst the historical epochs of Sengoku and Edo in Japan.

Drawing inspiration not only from the vivid imagery of Naruto but also delving into the intricacies of costume design found in the series "Wheel of Time," the distinct attire of the Fire Nation from Avatar, the painting of "Madame X" by Sargent, I endeavoured to synthesize these varied strands into a harmonious visual narrative.

In the delicate balance between subtlety and intensity, I sought to give life to a character I christened Obsidian—a nomenclature resonant with the profound symbolism of Black Rock. This homage extends beyond the realm of art, delving into the financial domain with a nod to BlackRock Inc, an investment juggernaut. Here, my contemplations took an unexpected turn towards the phenomenon of the Mrs. Watanabes, Japanese housewives who, in the early 2000s, left an indelible mark on the world of finance through their engagement in carry trade and forex ventures.

Thus, in the strokes and hues of this painting, one finds a convergence of worlds—anime realms, historical epochs, and financial landscapes—woven together into a rich narrative tapestry that invites contemplation on the interplay of diverse influences.
