In March 2021, a volcanic eruption began in the Geldingadalir valley at Fagradalsfjall Mountain in Iceland. The volcano is only located 30 km from Reykjavík and the eruption is still ongoing, constantly changing the surrounding landscape.
As a fine art photographer with a focus on abstract landscapes, I was particularly interested in capturing the beautiful and bizarre details of the flowing lava with my drone. This video shows a quiet period inside the crater where the lava was slowly flowing back into the earth's interior. Just a few minutes earlier, the volcano spewed red molten lava high into the air.
This kind of simultaneously fascinating but brutal transience was what made it so appealing to me. And I was absolutely overwhelmed by how quickly the lava flow changed.
