The woman depicted is Konohanasakuyahime, a goddess from Japanese mythology and the origin of the word for cherry blossoms.
The kimono she is wearing and the background are made of traditional Japanese kimono of Kyo-yuzen, and the design and the colors of herb-dyeing give the work a dignified and delicate expression.
In Japan, there is an ancient goddess of spring named Sahohime, who brings spring to the land by sprouting plants and trees after the winter.
This work depicts Konohanasakuyahime, who received the baton from Sahohime, riding a large crane and bringing beautiful cherry blossoms to the fields and mountains.

猫と女性を浮世絵のイメージで創作した作品です。
描かれている女性は日本の神話に出てくる木花咲耶姫(このはなさくやひめ)で桜の語源とされている女神です。
女性の着ている着物や背景には日本の伝統衣装である京友禅の着物が使われており、そのデザインや草木染の色を用いることで 作品に重厚感のある繊細な表現がされています。
日本には古より春の女神に佐保姫(さほひめ)がおり、佐保姫は冬が終わると草木を芽吹かせ大地に春を運んできます。
この作品は佐保姫からバトンを受け取った木花咲耶姫が、大きな鶴に乗り野山に美しい桜を咲かせている様子を創作しました。
