“Tribeswoman” is based on one of my orignal watercolour paintings of a girl from the powerful Erbore tribe in Ethiopia. They are a well respected tribe in their region and other tribes tend to avoid conflict with them because legend has it that the Erbore tribe once defeated the devil. This spiritual strength is portrayed in the woman’s strong gaze.

The painting is subtly layered with three other of my original watercolour paintings; a Tibetan woman exiled to India to flee Chinese suppression in Tibet, an elaborately and colourfully adorned Indian woman and a young child running.
