I have very fond memories of Cannon Beach, Oregon, dating back as far as I can remember. My family used to make the long drive from the Bay Area to the Northern Oregon Coast every few years to vacation. We used to rent "The Goonies" every time we visited, because the beach was featured in the opening scene of the film. I often look back at old photos, and reminisce of all the amazing moments we shared there.
In 2008, my Dad passed away from a heart attack. The sudden loss was earth shattering. My Sister and I lost our Dad that day, and my Mom lost the love of her life. It's been an uphill battle ever since, and the pain never truly goes away. My relationship with my Mom became very strong through the entire grieving and mourning process. She is the strongest women I've ever known, and I'm so lucky to have her.
Nowadays, Cannon Beach is a place that our family goes to heal, and surround ourselves with the memories we made there. There will always something missing, but we haven't let that keep us from creating new memories with our friend & family. I dream that someday I'll be able to buy my Mom a home at Cannon Beach so she can spend her days in a place that offers so much warmth and comfort. She deserves it all.
This piece is dedicated to my Mom, with love.
