I've always loved rendering caves. Over the years I've used all sorts of different tools to fashion the intricate rock formations they require and for this project I tried something completely new.
I used Houdini and a similar technique that I employed with "Threshold" to create the rock geometry here. I then imported that geometry into my landscape design program, VUE, and used procedural textures to simulate sandstone.
I tried very hard to make this look like a photograph but it is very much an imaginary place that I half-created, half-discovered in my computer.
