1/1 Hand-carved linocut by Burnish, with original physical print available to initial collector. (Is this the world's first direct translation of an AI image into linocut? Possibly!) First step in the process was prompting Midjourney for a potted succulent in the style of a linocut...and then I used the resulting image to actually hand-carve and hand-print a linocut print. Taking the AI's idea of a linocut and translating it as faithfully as possible into a real-world analog blockprint is so interesting to me! Being able to see the hand of the maker in each carved line, enjoying the imperfections and limitations of physical tools and skill? So fascinating! And then to further create a 1/1 NFT of it seems like coming full circle.
It feels like a conversation with AI. Spending hours using sharp chisels to carve lines created by an artificial intelligence is a different kind of meditation on art and craft.
Materials used: Midjourney AI, linoleum, chisels, acid-free paper, oil-based ink, wooden spoon
