Illustration based on an anecdote by Rumi
This Frame illustrates a part of the anecdote "Elephant in the Dark" where some nosy folks insisted on seeing an elephant belonging to a group of Indian buskers. The group used to tour with their elephant from one town to another and those folks wanted to be the first citizens who have seen an elephant in the city. Because of the dark, they could only search gropingly in the pitch-black stable for the animal.
One of them unexpectedly didn’t go to the dark stable and asked the mahout about the elephant instead. Mahout liked the man’s attitude and told him that the right way to know something is to read books and ask the ones who know! Then he explained to him everything he knew about the elephants’ lives.
The day Indians exhibited the animal in the city’s square, that guy was the only one who didn’t get surprised. Since he knew many things about them and could guess what the animal will look like.
