Orpheus journeyed to the Underworld in search of his beloved. Moved by his songs of grief and love, King Hades allowed Eurydice to leave but only if Orpheus walked ahead, never to turn around.

As he was about to reach the land of the Living, he feared he had been tricked and looked back, only to catch a last glimpse of Eurydice before she vanished forever.
