Family on the run. 1/1 - 2021

I was meant to be born in winter, in Cyprus, an eastern Mediterranean island. Things changed though, while I was in my mother's womb and I ended up being born in South Africa in the summer.
What caused my birth location to be changed? WAR.
My family was one of the thousands of inhabitants that fled during the Turkish invasion of Cyprus in 1974 when the city of Famagusta fell under Turkish control. My family ended up in a refugee camp. They finally left Cyprus and moved to South Africa for a better future.
Unfortunately, this is still the situation for many people worldwide who end up being refugees trying to find a safe place to build a new life.
