Early morning mist softens ancient trees at the edge of a bluebell woodland, as the sun streams into the beautiful and tranquil scene.
This was taken in a small woodland carpeted with wild bluebells - a delicate species of hyacinth. The previous evening it had rained so I knew there was a good chance of some morning mist. As I arrived the sun had just risen and, as I suspected, its warm glow began to cause a mist to rise from the damp woodland.
I love spring flowers and in the area where I live - the Yorkshire Wolds - I am spoiled with a glut of woodlands and valleys where countless species thrive, despite a national reduction in these habitats. Some of my favourites include bluebells, cowslips, wood anemone, cow parsley, primroses, orchids and wild garlic. All easily found within a short journey from my doorstep.
