This was my first encounter with an Agama Agama Lizard. This male was running on some rocks, under the heat of the midday sun, across from where I was standing. As luck would have it, the Agama either needed a break or it was just checking me out because it stopped for a fleeting second for this shot.
Information I learned of the Agama Lizard:
- They are also known as rainbow lizards because of how colorful the dominant males are.
- The dominant males display bright orange, reddish heads and shades of blue-greens neck to tail, especially during mating season or when basking. They are not always this bright.
- The female wears muted earth tones.
- They are predominantly insectivores but can eat small mammals, reptiles, and vegetation.
- They have fully formed external ear openings and eyelids.
- Their lifespan is 25 to 28 years.
