Inspired by my interest in the deep and sophisticated sociocultural aspects of Tonga, as a Tongan myself, I have watched Tonga change drastically since my childhood in the 80's to now, 2022.

This small collection of photographs contain scenes of preparations, events and ceremonies during the time of the coronation of the late King Siaosi Tupou V in 2008.

Tongans from across the entire kingdom, an archipelago of some 170 islands, came together to participate with dance, song and ceremony that have been passed down through their lineage.

There is estimated to be 105,500(2022) Tongans spread across all the Tongan islands and over 150,000(2022) people of Tongan descent living outside of Tonga.
