Queen Amina is a piece showcasing the exquisite fashion of a northern Fulani bride, and an ode to queen Amina of zazzu land.
The fashion and lifestyle of Fulani brides have always been a thing of fascination for me; their Aso oke (the materials used in sewing the top and wrapper), the style of the gele (head gear), the gold jewelries and their beautiful henna designs were all the things I put into consideration while creating this piece.
Even though I always enjoyed drawing portrait artworks, It was a bit challenging to infuse my abstract style of art into the portrait works. So when i got invited to the NCC World I knew I had to go back to my drawing board and I just had to execute something phenomenal.
I did a test run that came out well so started the work on the 14th April and completed it on the 24th April, 2023.
