The picture was taken at one of these lakes near the Rhine River in Germany. In winter it is often very cold, but the air is clear and there are no mosquitoes (in summer there are very, very many mosquitoes). The surface of the water was like a mirror and the water is really much lighter in the photo than the sky. This is not a fake. Admittedly ... the starry sky is a post-processing and artistic freedom.
