This is an image shot during winter at the height of Milky Way season here in Tairāwhiti, Gisborne. I wanted to capture the landscape in a unique light - basking under the amazing night sky we have such a clear view of here. Perched on the edge of the cliff I was treated to a distinct orange air glow towards the horizon as the city lights shone behind. These cliffs have witnessed the events of the ages - including the arrival of the Māori on the Takitimu Waka over 800 years ago. Likewise, when the Endeavour sailed ashore over half a millennia later this would have been the prime place to see it.
