Aro Meta or the "three wise men" as they're popularly called are three white granite sculptures of white cap chiefs primarily from the Idejo family, built by Bodun Shodehinde In 1991. Initially situated at the Lagos-Ogun state border, as a welcome symbol to people entering Lagos, Aro Meta has been moved severally over the years due to exposure to hostile conditions. More than sculptures, Aro Meta richly portrays the traditional greetings common amongst Lagos Island (Eko) chiefs, exhibiting clenched right fists placed over the left, symbolizing the Yoruba belief in the supremacy of the right. The sculptures are also clothed intricately in bound white wrappers with their ends flung over the left shoulder. An art monument should be more than just aesthetics, and if any monument deserves to be projected on the global tourism space, it should be Aro Meta. It conveys profound meaning, culture, heritage, and a unique design that makes it deserving of the spot as Lagos's top symbolic monument.
