There are unpleasent dreams wich occur when our brain wakes up a little before our body. It's an incomplete awakening, a transition between sleep and wakefulness. This is called sleep paralysis. A person under this state is cognitively awake, but cannot move, talk or even breathe normally. The person is conscious, but remains still.
