Paradise

Her name was Pardis (paradise), and like her name, she was always colorful and beautiful. In the darkest alleys of life, she laughed out loud like a free and glowing butterfly, lighting up her surroundings. Anyone who knew her would never forget the sound of her hearty and genuine laughter. Pardis was colorful. She always talked to the birds and trees on the streets. She talked to the dogs and cats. Sometimes, she even kissed the clouds from afar.

She is no longer with us, but the marks she left behind, her footsteps on the stage of theaters, and the energy of her laughter will last forever.

Pardis Afkari, an Iranian actress with a 40-year career in cinema, television, and theater, emigrated in 2016 and removed her mandatory hijab. After 8 years away, she returned to Iran despite political risks and passed away from advanced cancer less than two months later in Tehran.
