Dhikr is Arabic for "remembrance", "reminder" or "mention"; it's a form of Islamic meditation in which phrases or prayers are repeatedly chanted in order to remember God.
Dhikr plays a central role in Sufiism, the mystical tradition at the heart of Islam, and each Sufi order typically adopts a specific dhikr. These are usually accompanied by specific postures, breathing, and movement.
