This painting depicts Lucretia, daughter-in-law of Heron of Alexandria, arrested by the Romans just after selling them the first prototype steam engine ever built by mankind.
This scene is linked to an ancient industrial revolution that was quickly suppressed by the powers that be at the beginning of the first millennium, plunging the whole of Europe into the Dark Ages and then into the Middle Ages.
This aborted industrial revolution is said to have originated with the invention of the steam engine by Heron of Alexandria ; In the 1st century B.C., the Greek scientist developed a steam-driven device he called the Aeolipile.
