“With Hands now obsolete and Heart forgotten, the Head is all it needs.”
'Elevated' is a series of structures depicting an alternate-reality ecosystem that serves as a metaphor for the past, present, and future states of the technological landscape. Each tower — the Head, the Archives, the Vault, the Refinery, and the Watch — embodies a character in this metropolis, void of human presence.
The idea for this series came after watching 'Metropolis' (Fritz Lang, 1927), a German expressionist sci-fi movie that Xer0x referred to a couple of times. It is often regarded as one of the greatest and most influential films ever made, so it's not surprising that it sparked something in me. Without being consciously aware of it, I've realized some of my works, including the 'Desolated' series, were already exploring similar dystopian themes plus the film noir / proto-noir aesthetic. A must-watch, or re-watch, ASAP.
Other influences for this project include the skyscrapers of architect Hugh Ferriss, which led me to explore a ton of buildings from the Art Deco era. I was also inspired by the irrigation canals featured in 'Acequia', a generative project by ThePaperCrane and Rich Poole, along with the intriguing towers of the 'Tur' project by Ganchitecture. And more.
'Elevated' extends the 'Desolated' project for the second time. Minted on Tezos in 2022, this series features 9 buildings and the complete city.
Last year, I recreated it in 3D and minted 'Forever Desolated' on Foundation. It was important for me that this new series be part of the same collection. The piece was also presented in the 2-part group exhibition 'Tomorrow & Tomorrow' at the Larsen Warner Gallery in Stockholm, alongside crazy talented artists such as 0x3y3, Sky Goodman, Cemhah, and many others. Shoutout to Evelyn_O for organizing that one.
