Once upon a time there was a big field of color, and everyone was happy. Taking inspiration from the Color Field movement that emerged in American painting in the mid-twentieth century, The Remnants of Movement is a meditation upon aesthetic trends and the fashioning of experience that they bring about. As with the majority of her oeuvre, LIA’s piece thematises the interdependence of audience and work. She presents color fields not as large, solid areas of canvas, but as patterns of shifting relationships.
