Description

In darkness and in light, The Chicago Harbor Lighthouse acts as a guiding light. It is often viewed from the end of Navy Pier, but if you want to see the intricate details, my favorite way to take in this historic landmark is cruising around it by boat.

While the Chicago Harbor Lighthouse was built for the 1893 World’s Columbian Exposition, it was still in construction, and did not shine until the end of the World’s Fair. It first illuminated on November 9, 1893 with a Fresnel lens that was exhibited at the Fair. In 1919, the lighthouse was moved from its original location to where it is today. It became an automated active lighthouse in 1979. The Chicago Harbor Lighthouse is only one of four lighthouses in Illinois.

“The Lighthouse” is raw/unedited and this photograph was taken on my first roll of 35mm film.
