This exhibition spotlights five emerging Brazilian artists spotlighted in juujuumama’s "Five on Foundation" curation featured on May 24th, 2024.
Brazil is a melting pot of cultures, with over half of the population identifying as preto (Black) or pardo (mixed ethnicity). This curation is a tribute to that diversity and vibrancy. These colorful and expressive works not only highlight the unique creativity found in Brazil but also celebrate the deep cultural connections that bridge Brazil and Africa.
An array of mediums from paintings to digital art and even hair sculptures are featured. Each piece reflects the resilience, spirit, and beauty of Brazilian life, offering viewers a glimpse into the soul of this extraordinary country.
“Tchaggo's artwork captures the essence of longing and nostalgia, a garden cultivated solely with memories.”
“The artist's deep affection for their own pets (particularly their beloved cat) shines through in this affectionate rendering of the feline form.”
“Qab's artwork is a serene and mystical representation of personal healing and transformation.”
“Festa Junina captures the joyous essence of the traditional Brazilian festival with a vibrant explosion of colors.”
“Janice Mascarenhas's work challenges traditional notions of sculpture by incorporating use of human hair. Each piece feels deeply personal and culturally rich.”
