Miyamoto Musashi (1584-1645) was a swordsman and ronin, sometimes identified as a samurai, creator of the two-sword fighting style called Niten Ichi Ryu, and writer of the martial arts treatise known as the Book of Five Rings.

According to the Book of Five Rings, Musashi was never defeated in combat, despite facing over sixty opponents, sometimes more than one simultaneously.
He was an adventurer: He liked to roam the country in search of famous opponents to duel and perfect his combat technique.

In addition to being an unbeatable duelist since the age of 13, Musashi also dabbled in other arts such as painting, calligraphy and sculpture, and even wrote books on swordsmanship and strategy.

He is considered one of Japan's national heroes.
