Mount Pinatubo is an active stratovolcano in the Zambales Mountains

Mount Pinatubo is located in the Philippines. It gained its fame after a deadly eruption in 1991, that took the life of hundreds of people, and caused enormous economical damage to the country. Having a history of violent eruptions, and being dormant for almost 500 years, it awoke to cause the second deadliest catastrophe in the 20th century.

The second-largest volcanic eruption of this century, and by far the largest eruption to affect a densely populated area, occurred at Mount Pinatubo in the Philippines on June 15, 1991. The eruption produced high-speed avalanches of hot ash and gas, giant mudflows, and a cloud of volcanic ash hundreds of miles across. The impacts of the eruption continue to this day.
