In Norse mythology, Hel is the queen of the afterlife realm. She is the daughter of the god Loki. She was in Nifleheim, also known as the World of Darkness, which is a cold, dark, and misty world of the dead. With the frozen rivers of Élivágar and the well of Hvergelmir, from which all the rivers flow, Niflheim was primarily a realm of primordial ice and cold.*
