Ketil | No. 2 of my genesis series “SOUTHERN BLISS”
The name of this peak is Ketil and it sits deep in the Tasermiut Fjord. It raises its snow-powdered granite 2010m (6595 ft) into the sky. Its over 1000m high western wall is considered one of the most challenging Big Walls on Earth.
Hiking in Greenland is different from hiking anywhere else I’ve ever been. There are no trails or routes for hikers; you are left to make your own way through the dense bushes or find a spot to cross the next river. As we moved onto steeper elevation, we found ourselves in a terrain with pretty loose rocks. Now the slope was nearly vertical and making progress required climbing with both hands. Eventually we made it up there knowing that this was a sketchy call and also just half the journey. After a mostly sleepless night in the cold the rising sun made it through the clouds and lit up the top of Ketil where strong winds were blowing. It seemed like a gift at that moment.
