For me, octos are the ideal vehicle for exploring the diverse nature of consciousness. They have hands, they use tools, they build shelters, they problem solve, and they play. In this piece, I have represented consciousness in a ghost octo encountering a submarine. Ghost octopuses were only discovered recently. This photo, however, centers the octopuses self-discovery in the encounter with its own reflection, and emphasizes that discovery is an experience that belongs to all conscious beings.
