From Zāl and a beautiful maid was born a boy named Shaghad. When he became mature, Zāl sent him to the Shah of Kabul who gave his daughter to him and hoped that Rostam would no longer take tribute from him out of respect for this bond. But Rostam's people did as usual. Shaghad conspired with the Shah to overthrow his brother. The Shah invited Rostam to a party and dragged him to a hunting ground where he had dug several wells, according to Shaghad's plan. Wells were piled with poisoned spears and covered with rubble and dirt. Rostam and Rakhsh fell into a well and were injured. Shaghad hid behind an old tree on the well. Rostam stitched the Shaghad and the tree together with an arrow and thanked God for giving him the force to take revenge on his ill-wishers before he died.
I have portrayed Rostam and Rakhsh falling into the well full of spears. Shaghad is the well and his teeth are poisoned spears to illustrate the role of his half-brother, Shaghad in this conspiracy.
