When Goshtāsp seized power in Iran, all countries were loyal except Zabol. Goshtāsp sent his son to capture Rostam, although he was aware of a prediction that foretells the death of Esfandiyar at the hand of Rostam. Esfandiyar departed with a small number of troops and camped near the city of Zabul. There was no profit in the talks, and the duel between the two gladiators began.
This battle lasted for several days, Rostam complained to his father, Zāl, and he took Simurgh's help. Simurgh advised Rostam to win but said the consequences of Esfandiyar murder would be severe. Unknown to Rostam is that Esfandyar had bathed in a pool of invincibility while keeping his eyes closed, and through this, the young prince can be vanquished. The battle resumes, and a shot slays Esfandyar through the eyes.
I portrayed Rostam's displeasure at murdering Esfandiyar and Goshtāsp's major role in the murder of his son.
