I was staying in the Kara village already for several days, when I saw Biwa coming back from the Omo River with a crocodile on his shoulders. It looked amazing!
Biwa is one of the highly respected elders of the village and he is known for being a great warrior and hunter.
I only had a few minutes until the sun would disappear and make it impossible to take pictures. Within a few minutes I setup my large format camera and my mobile studio with backdrop & softbox/flash. I only had the chance to expose four sheets of film before it was too dark.
Back at home I eagerly developed my film and I was super excited that two of my negatives turned out perfect.
Of course, I returned back to the village and gave Biwa the picture. Holding the picture above his head, he walked singing through the village, showing it to everybody.
I returned more then 25 times back to the village (for social/medical work) and Biwa and I became great friends.
