Inarguably my most famous photograph of Kurt Cobain, seen splayed here on Nirvana's then drummer Chad Channing's kit at the seedy little club Raji's on Los Angeles' Sunset Strip.
A brief but incredibly explosive show, I only shot two rolls of them that evening. As the show was winding down, the band devolved into a wail of feedback with Kurt and Krist pacing the stage, dragging their equipment back and forth. I looked down at my camera and realized I had maybe ten shots left on that roll before needing to change it out. I sensed something bigger was coming so I held back. And I was right.
Just then, Kurt leaped into the air and I held down the trigger on the camera's motor drive and captured what is this famous series of Kurt leaping into the drum kit and then walking away, this being the middle image of the seven. It has been featured in publications around the world, as well as the entire series in almost life size prints in the permanent collection of the Seattle Art Museum.
